BIJU BUBBLE TEA ROOM, NUMBER 1 IN SOHO, LONDON

“I WANT TO MAKE IT THE BEST BUBBLE TEA IN THE WORLD” – NICK PHAN, THE ENTREPRENEUR.

Although it’s not that new in London anymore, but this one in particular is the latest entry into the rising trend of bubble teas in London. Biju Bubble Tea Room has bubble teas that are not like the others being sold in London. These teas are made fresh and right infront of the customer. All the ingredients are right infront of the customer and he/she has an open choice to ask for what they want.

There is nothing artificial put into these teas. All the ingredients including Milk, Nectars, Toppings and Tea Leaves are completely organic. The Tea Leaves used are whole loose tea leaves rather than the tea bags, and are all imported from Taiwan. Nicholas Phan, the entrepreneur spent two months in Taiwan tasting the teas and bringing to London the best of them.

The teas are divided into five different categories: Milk Teas hot/cold, Iced Teas, Mousse Teas, Fruity Milk and Coconut Water. All the drinks included in these categories are worth trying and believe me you will love most of them if not all. I had the honour of tasting some of the finest teas at the Biju Bubble Tea Room.

LYCHEE COCONUT WATER

Lychee Coconut Water

Lychee Coconut Water

The reason I’m starting with this drink, is that this isn’t really tea. Yes, there is a category which is not tea at all. This drink is a very unique drink and no one else in the world does this. You can go anywhere else and ask for this drink and you will not get it because it’s only made in Biju Bubble Tea Room in Soho. The Coconut Water Jellies put into it as a topping give it an added taste and once you are done drinking, you can nibble on them.

MATCHA MOUSSE TEA

Macha Mousse

Macha Mousse

Matcha originates from Japan. It is a leaf which is grounded into the shape of powder. The Japanese drink it in their daily lives and it is also a secret to their long life. It contains antioxidants which naturally cleans the inside of the body. In Biju, it is served with Savoury Mousse which floats on top of it. I tried it before mixing the savoury mousse and it was bitter, but that’s the original taste of macha tea. Once mixed, the tea becomes creamy and is mildly bitter, making it more drinkable and tasty. Don’t let the green colour distract you. I know it’s not good looking but it is worth trying, plus, it can give you a long life.

BLACK MOUSSE TEA

This tea was quite interesting. At first when it is served it looks like beer, and for a moment, you have to literally look around if you are in the right place. What gives it the look of the beer is its colour which is brown, with white froth on top, which is not really froth but savoury mousse. Just give the straw a little bit of a jerk and watch the white savoury mousse move around in the tea. The texture that starts appearing looks exactly like the texture of the planet Jupiter. It’s like holding a mini Jupiter in your hands. Try the tea itself without mixing the savoury mousse. It would be light at first but after mixing the savoury mousse it would give it a thick feel and make it tasty.

TARO MILK

Taro Milk

Taro Milk

Taro is a root vegetable which looks similar to sweet potato. It is commonly used in Asian cooking as an important ingredient. This drink only contains organic milk mixed with taro. This one was very new to me as I’ve never tasted it before. It is very light in drinking and the tapioca pearls give it an added taste.

PASSION FRUIT (ICED) TEA

Passion Fruit (Iced) Tea

Passion Fruit (Iced) Tea

This tea contains Bazel seeds as its topping. It has a yellow orangish colour and has a very mild bitter taste. The bazel seeds give an added taste of their own, and are fun nibbling to. This one is actually green tea with passion fruit nectar. No milk is added in this tea.

HONEY DEW MELON FRUITY MILK

This one is a milk drink and is not a tea at all. It is my most favourite because it’s the sweetest, lightest and the most refreshing of all. It is quite sweet so asking for added sugar will not be necessary and it actually tastes of a sweet melon. It is also a favourite among the customers. The ones who try it for the first time fell in love with it. Other than this one, do try Strawberry Fuity Milk and Mango Fruity Milk too. They have a taste of their own.

All the Teas and Fruity Milks are gellatin and gluten free, therefore they are completely Halal. You have a choice of choosing the quantity of sugar from no sugar to extra sugar. The cups available are regular (500ml) and large (700ml) which start form £2.95 with added toppings costing from £0.50p each. You can even customise your order once it’s given and ask them to change the toppings. Head off to 45 Old Compton Street and experience the best of what the Biju Bubble Tea Room has to offer.
