In a surprising turn of events in the fantastical world of Denis Villeneuve, the director is planning to expand the Dune universe with a third part. While talking with Empire, the director said that he hopes to make a Dune trilogy.

While the first and second part follow the original novel by Frank Herbert, the third part will follow the sequel titled ‘Dune Messiah‘. Denis is interested in exploring the character of Paul Atreides who is considered to be a messianic hero in the novel.

The release of the movie has been moved from 3rd November, 2023 to 15th March, 2024. This is done due to the Writers Guild of America and the SAG-AFTRA strike taking place in the American film industry.
