THE AGE OF SHADOWS Trailer Review London East Asia Film Festival 2016. Directed by Kim Jee Woon the film will have its European Premiere in the 1st London East Asia Film Festival 2016, on 20th October. The film stars Song Kang Ho, Gong Yoo, Han Ji Min and Lee Byung hun. It is Warner Bros. first Korean production and will be the official submission by South Korea for the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category for 89th Academy Awards in 2017.
The trailer revolves around four characters that are Lee Jung Chool (Song Kang Ho), Kim Woo Jin (Gong Yoo), Yeong Gye Soon (Han Ji Min) and Kim Sang Ho (Hee Soon Park). The film has a total feel of a cat and mouse game, in which all the four characters are chasing each other, while trying to find a way to escape. There is a tug of war between them all with a very complicated plot to it.
The film is based on a real incident that happened back in 1923 when there was a bombing that took place at Jongro Police Station, a Headquarter in Hwang Ok. It is a political film filled with gangster styled wars between three countries that are Korea, Japan and China. The Koreans want independence from the Japanese who are ruling over them, therefore a group of rebels come together to get explosives from China and destroy key locations of the Japanese. The performances are all espionage style, and all the actors slip into their characters perfectly. The action sequences include gun fights, hand to hand combat and chases on foot. It is a mystery movie, so plot twists can be expected.
Watch this movie if you have loved watching previous movies directed by Kim Jee Woon which include The Good, The Bad, The Weird and I Saw The Devil. Gong Yoo on the other hand is getting better film offers lately, which also includes Train To Busan, in which he gave a near to perfect performance and Song Kang Ho has been in very good films for a long time. Watch this movie as it is action packed, full of suspense and betrayal.
