Some drama characters are so loathsome that we love to watch them! Despicable to the core and terribly annoying, these villains become forever iconic- even though their actions can never be justified.
This year we saw Ammar and Salma of Khaas as among the most hate worthy personalities. And how can we forget Wajih of Cheekh, a character so appalling that the whole of Pakistan united against him.
We all know which baddie is trending on our screens these days. Its none other than ‘Shahwar’ of Ary Digital’s Meray Pass Tum Ho, played by Adnan Siddiqui.
Social media is hooked to his vile character. There is an outpour of viral videos and hilarious memes based on his scenes in the drama!
Meanwhile, there is yet another antagonist that is slowly rising high: Mir Farooq Zaman aka Agha Jaan of Hum TV’s Ye Dil Mera, yet again portrayed by Adnan! The character’s dark past and wicked secrets have kept fans of the drama riveted. Every episode unveils a heinous, new truth about Agha Jaan and we cannot resist hating him more and more.
However, the credit for a character that has been so successful with viewers of both the dramas undeniably goes to Adnan Siddiqui. Without a doubt, he has become the ultimate villain of the year.
Let’s reflect on his avatars in both the dramas and the popularity each has reaped so far!
Young, bold, brazen and the wealthy owner of a chemical conglomerate, Shahwar of Meray Pass Tum Ho is out and out a charmer.
He knows how to entice a woman, yet he does it only to satiate his lust. An apparent playboy and a womanizer, our antihero is married yet is not afraid to keep a mistress by his side. What is worse, he boldly targets a married woman, manipulates her and destroys a family.

While there is nothing ‘likable’ about this abominable character, it is hard not to watch Adnan Siddiqui play this sly and suave role on screen.
He effortlessly portrayed the classy, dandy and shady Shahwar, making us realize that Siddiqui has aged like fine wine. His acting skills have never been more volcanic and even at this age, he has looks that could sway women of their feet!
Peppered hair, handlebar beard and an attitude that could kill; Mir Farooq Zaman is a widow, a father to a young girl in her 20’s.
But don’t underestimate him for his salt and pepper look! He is robust, powerful and dominant. There is something so wolfish about his character, you almost know that he is up to no good.
His arrogance knows no bounds and is conceited to the core. A wealthy tycoon, he could even kill to get revenge. And so, apparently, he does in the drama. Over-possessive and a controlling parent, he loves his daughter to death but has dark secrets hidden from her. He has a young and ravishing second wife hushed away far from his family, but even she cannot escape his ferociousness.
But what makes his character so interesting are the mysteries of his past – those top-secret incidents that ended up giving deep childhood trauma to his daughter.
Yet again, Adnan Siddiqui has aptly pulled off the ruthlessness and fierceness of Mir Farooq Zaman. He has proved that he can represent the role of a father as convincing as that of a young hero, making you believe in him and his talent even more.

However, those who have been following Adnan’s career and his dramas will know that he has donned his fair share of negative roles as much as those of a hero.
We caught up with the senior entertainment journalist, Omair Alavi to take his view on the matter.
“There was a drama ‘Doraha’ in which he marries Humayun Saeed’s love interest, Sonia Rehman and makes her life miserable. There was yet another drama ‘Meray Qatil, Meray Dildaar’, with Ahsan Khan was the hero and Adnan played the role of his brother. He indulges in an affair with his brother’s wife, played by Mehwish Hayat and marries her after the couple part ways.He has played many more negative roles but these days he is ruling as Shahwar in Meray Pass Tum Ho. He is far better than any actor. Amongst all the dramas that have released this year, Syed Jibran’s role in Ranjha Ranjha Kerdi was amazing and Imran Ashraf’s role in Inkaar was convincing. But Adnan Siddiqui as Shahwar has surpassed their level and he is the best of all the villains this year!”

Nevertheless, we left the verdict on drama-aficionados to decide who they are loving to hate more, Shawar or Mir Farooq Zaman?
A poll on Instagram revealed Shahwar to be leading as a villain, with Mir Farooq closely following!
However, a Twitter poll revealed otherwise with Shahwar falling behind with an immense margin.
All the same, whoever wins the battle of the villains, it is Adnan Siddiqui who remains the victor. The year is ending with a mighty bang for him. And we are wondering what more memorable roles he is planning for his fans in the days coming ahead!
